With Imagination as a Profession
The starting point for the project entitled WITH IMAGINATION AS A PROFESSION (Med fantasin som yrke) was the idea to create an art book different from most other art books, which often have the structure of an anthology where artists and their work are presented in an uniform matter, from A to Z. Over time, we began ask to ourselves things like: Why are art books almost never pieces of art themselves? Will anyone allow us to rework their art? Who is then the artist and who is responsible for the quality?
We invited a number of people with creative professions – artists, photographers, designers and researchers – whose work we were interested in. In total, we invited 21 persons from different parts of Sweden. We received more than 1700 images. A big part of this material were given an analogue treatment – with scissors and scalpels, glue and paint – and then scanned into our computers for further work. The texts are based on a questionnaire with 23 questions that were sent to the participators. The answers have been treated in different ways – they were cut apart and put together into new answers. Finally, the book was designed. This led to yet another adaptation or remix of the material – and texts and images were put together. This step in the process led to the artwork that is the book entitled WITH IMAGINATION AS A PROFESSION (Med fantasin som yrke).
